Other Information

Sir Ronnie Weatherup has been President of the Belfast Charitable Society, based at Clifton House, since 2018. He is a law graduate of QUB and a barrister-at-law. He was appointed a Judge of the High Court in 2001 and a Judge of the Court of Appeal in 2015. He retired in 2017.

The 2nd Marquis of Donegal 1769-1844 was born and brought up in England. In 1799 he inherited one of the greatest estates in Ireland – 250,000 acres that included the land around Belfast. However, he had a gambling addiction with many creditors chasing him. He became known as “Lord Done ‘Em All” and eventually fled to Belfast.

His life in Belfast was fascinating but when his marriage to Anna May was found to be unlawful this undermined and threatened to ruin the Donegal family. What were the consequences and how was this resolved?

This talk is the first part of an exchange with Belfast Charitable Society where their members will be invited to attend on 29thApril and Ulster Reform Club Members will be invited to attend a history talk to be given at Clifton House on 17th June – details to appear in a later flyer.

All Club Members are very welcome and may invite guests both to the talk and to lunch but please inform the Club of their names for our concierge at the front door and for the Dining Room.

Lunch will be buffet style in the dining room. When booking, please advise of any dietary requirements. As we do not ask for payment in advance, it is important that you keep us advised of any changes to your booking.

We look forward to seeing you and your guests.
