Other Information

John Luke was born in Belfast in 1906, and started work as a riveter in the shipyards. He enrolled in evening classes at the Belfast College of Art, from where he won a scholarship to the Slade School of Fine Art in London. He is one of Ireland's best loved artists, with a unique and colourful style from many influences. Many will remember our visit to see his famous mural at Rosemary Street Masonic Hall.

Well known art historian, Amanda Croft, will tell us more about this intriguing artist. Amanda was a lecturer and art historian in the education sector in Belfast.

She continues to lecture regularly for the Ulster Museum and runs Art Talks, which promotes contemporary arts in Ireland. Her knowledge and enthusiasm make her an interesting and entertaining speaker. She has a unique ability to bring out the personality of artists and the gossip and stories that reveal the person behind the brush and easel!
